TBT: Remember when GE Made it Rain Octopi?
We’ve all heard of “raining cats and dogs” and “raining men,” but raining octopuses? Which begs the question, is it octopuses or octopi? We’ll let you decide. But we’re throwing it back to this bizarre ad from GE and BBDO New York where it’s doing exactly that: raining octopuses.
The scene is set on every bride’s nightmare: an outdoor wedding with rain. But this is no ordinary rainstorm. It’s a mess of tentacles plummeting from the sky like some horrific sci-fi movie (ler: Octnado). The spot switches to an airline pilot navigating through a literal sea of octopuses. And somehow, an Octobrella (ella, ella, ella) company is totally prepared for this crazy cephalopod storm, which is the point of the spot: that GE is also ready for “whatever the world throws at us” with its ability to help hospitals, power grids, planes, trains, and Superman operate at a higher level.
Per usjz, BBDO New York makes the concept interesting, to say the least, with a little help from its friends at Biscuit Filmworks, Work Editorial, and Method Studios.
We can dig the absurdity, but mostly, we’re just hungry for ceviche.
