Facebook Throws It Back to 2015 with Touching Year in Review Ad
Where else would we look besides Facebook when we’re picking out that perfect TBT photo or memory? Facebook cares about your memories and lets you know using the On This Day feature. But better than throwing it back to just one day, Facebook threw it back to an entire year with its 2015 Year in Review Video. It was a highlight of all the things, good and bad, that brought us together in 2015 and all the connections we have to look forward to in 2016 and beyond.
Whirled and Facebook put together the video to look back at the most talked-about topics of 2015, and while there was a lot of heartbreak and tragedy, there was also a lot of breakthrough and progress. The clip starts out on a sad note, sharing the many hardships of 2015: the Nepal earthquake, Europe’s refugee crisis, and the Charleston killings. It soon flashes to the bright moments of 2015 like the Supreme Court decision on gay marriage and Caitlyn Jenner’s speech at the ESPYs. Of course, there’s also references to pop culture (think Game of Thrones and John Snow), planets, and presidential hopefuls (thankfully, Trump is teeny tiny in the video).
The people at Whirled work a lot with Google videos, but they also used Facebook frames throughout the videos as a reminder that Facebook is where the world shares its wonders and woes.
The video closes out with the line: “Let’s stand together in 2016,” an idea that’s definitely worth liking. And let’s also remember that no one cares what color the dress is.
