Volkswagen’s Pedestrian Detection Puts Late Movie Goers in The Spotlight #baconbits

Today’s #baconbits features a fun piece by DDB Spain for Volkswagen…

Famoronana Tale (DDB) Pedro Andragnes tells us,
“Volkswagen asked us to prepare a demo for the new Passat technology. But demos are usually boring. So we decided to do something different, something that normal people could appreciate, something good for them. We started trying to solve everyday people matters, but alot of brands try to do that, so we went a step further. We decided to attack those matters that are impossible to solve, like latecomers. We hate latecomers! Izany, instead of solving the matter we decided to take revenge. And it felt sooooo good!”

Was this actually executed in real-time?
Eny. The action was performed with a 2-minute trailer at the start of the projection to take advantage of people who were late. During that time, when someone arrived, the person was detected in the dark and a focus illuminated him. At the same time, the Pedestrian Detector icon appeared on screen with an alarm sound, stopping the projection of the trailer. Once the person sat, the technology was introduced and the trailer resumed.
