W+K Revives KFC’s The Colonel

W+K is reviving The Colonel, KFC’s long-sedated mascot who has been synonymous with fried chicken since 1952. The new Colonel is quirky, nostalgic, and off-kilter in that Midwest kind of way–we like that about him. W+K has even add a Hall of Colonels website to build on his legend.

The Ham’s Take

Mascots will always be debatable, but W+K continues to prove that when done correctly, their brand influence is powerful.

In an effort to stoke nostalgia, W+K appears to be tying KFC and its Colonel to some of America’s fondest pastimes–baseball, a summer pool, etc. The revival of The Colonel is copacetic, and while it may not be the viral sensation that The Old Space Man was, he could pan out to be an excellent brand play for KFC.
